In the game play, players start out with a character card. Each of these cards is either a good guy or a bad guy that can capture energy for the game. The characters have names and different versions. 

Each of these characters also has unique areas called damage zones (and they all react differently). These damage zones are used so that players can tell how hurt their characters have been in the battle. For example, if the red is completely filled up, it means the character went down in the battle and the opposing player defeated your character.

Also on Spin Master’s Redakai character cards is information that shows what your character can do - what his abilities are. This is basically his fighting ability during the different battles and each battle is different, so what works in one might not work in the other depending on what ability the other characters in the game have.

Besides character cards, there are also monster cards. These cards list the monster name, which version of the monster he is and his defense zone. Like the character cards, the monster cards also show what abilities the monster has.

There are also what’s called attack cards. These cards have details needed for game play such as the title of the attack, the color of it and the level of power the attack has (this has meaning for your character).

When the game begins, each player picks up a card from their deck and that card goes into play. When a monster card is picked, it has to be placed over your character. These are good in that it can raise your defense stakes.

In Redakai, when an attack card is drawn, this is placed over your foe’s character in order to try to injure his character by causing damage. The first level of play kids should get through is the basic play and should remain in this level until they’ve mastered the basics.
